One my absolute favorite gardeners , Kristin Crouch , creator of the blogThat Bloomin ’ Garden , is joining us again today for tea prison term . Kristin is a author , speaker system , Tennessean Master Gardener , and a kid ’s community garden mentor . Oh , and that ’s when she ’s notgrowing 500 tomatoes in her nursery !
Today Kristin join us to talk about fundraising and gardening and how to make these pretty teatime cup planters . Teacups make stylish and simple planter staring for hymeneals , talent , and interior decoration . But they can also be a powerful fundraising tool for a schooltime or garden project !
Are you wait for a way to upraise some ‘ seeded player money ” for your school garden ? I have an idea that may get your originative juices flowing . A couple of years ago I was working with a mark one stratum and we were planning a plant sales agreement to elicit some money for our school garden . We had the common pots of repeated bloom to trade but I want to try something different . I knew that there were a wad of teacupful being thrown away at our local penny-pinching shop . Why , you take ? It turns out if a cup does n’t amount with a disk when donated , the teacup is throw in the garbage .

There must be a way of life to economize such beautiful china . An theme do to me . I enquire if we could plant them . The school garden volunteer were excited to try it out . I bought fortune of tea cups and some even come with saucers . Many teacups were donated from the community . We were set up to go .
For the supply I had to line up plants , and for this gardener that was the best day of all . I decided to use Violas as the plant sale was in early May and the weather was still cool . genus Viola bet perfect in a teacup with their tiny heyday in all different colors . Next , I bribe just one bag of lightweight soil , the kind you use for indoor plants and seedlings . I grabbed some spoons instead of trowels . The spoon were a perfect size for put dirt in a teacupful .
To begin , we added just a tiny bit of soil to the bottom of the teacupful . Remember to leave room for the beginning ball to fit in the teacupful .

We withdraw our plant from its pot and locate it in the teacup . It is important at this point to make trusted the grade of the plant life is just right . You may have to remove a second of solution material from the bottom of the flora to make it fit . This will not hurt the industrial plant , but boost new stem to grow .
Once your plant is at the right level in the tea leaf cup , add a bit of filth around all the sides and the top until the plant feel secure in its newfangled rest home . Be sure to conjure the soil down with your fingers to fill in melodic phrase pocket as you go . Viola ! You have just planted your teacupful .
For our sale , we also used curling thread and tied some on the handles of each teacup . The tiddler made Happy Mother ’s daytime rag that were threaded onto the ribbon after punching a hole in the card .

Was our sale successful ? You bet .
We were able to donate $ 500 to the local food banking company and still have money for seed for the next year . For the Moms who receive them , what a overnice talent . The teacup planters can be brought within for a couple of workweek but afterward should be planted alfresco in the garden . If placing outside , be sure to have them where they are protect from the rainwater . Without drain in the cup , you do n’t need your flora to submerge . Water them when needed , being measured not to overwater . Imagine using these as post markers for a tea leaf party or a wedding . Now would n’t that be fun ?
