The process is very simple :

When To Sow Calendula

While you could inseminate in spring or fall , I tend to sow my calendula seeds in spring .

“ This access void looking after seedlings all wintertime for the modified benefit of more or less to begin with blossoming , ” says Roy Nicol , a Master Horticulturist .

you could select to sow indoors from March , direct sow in April or May , or inseminate either indoors or straightaway in September or October .

calendula are hardy and can cope with a little frost .

1) Prepare The Growing Area

Calendula seeds can be sown , like other annuals , into ejaculate tray , stool roll tubes , grunge block or small pots , filled with a peat - costless seed - starting compost .

However , the best insurance policy is generally to sow calendula seeds flat into prepared soil where they are to grow .

calendula are quite unfussy plants but like moist yet loose - run out territory in full sun or very light spectre .

I use them as companion plants in my vegetable garden .

2) Sow The Seeds

If choosing not to straight sow in , place seed into your tray , blocks , module or containers , around 1 cm deep .

I but broadcast the seed over an arena of my beds or inseminate sparsely into rows , covering over lightly with homemade compost so they are around 1 cm deep .

Once the seedling have germinated , I slim down these to around 20 centimeter aside .

3) Plant Out

If you have not opt to right away sow your calendula , you may goad out and sess up if required , then harden off and institute out your young calendula plant between May and July , once the atmospheric condition has begun to warm up where you endure .

unmediated sowing is by far the easiest choice , and calendula should thrive without much care and attention .

Just make certain the soil remain damp but not waterlogged and these plants will more or less take forethought of themselves .

Often , they will also do the work for you and seed themselves around your garden the following yr .
