Six on Saturday. Notes from the hammock.
Yes , we seem to have summertime at last ! The hammocks are out and we intend spending this weekend in horizontal modality . But first my summery Six on Saturday . I have loads of roses so let ’s start with rather an strange one .
Rosa macrantha‘Raubritter ’ is a procumbent or ground - cover rose which is good for straggle over a wall or over a bank . It has arching branches which wear masses of forked pinkish flowers . What defecate it unusual is the globular material body of the flowers which do them look more like peony than roses . I have it acquire by my smaller pond and it looks fabulous , although like everything in my garden , it will plausibly raise too big for its outer space . This rose was bred by Kordes , a German stock breeder . Why he name it ‘ Robber Baron ’ I do n’t have sex . ‘ Ritter’is a horse or baron but ” Raubritter ‘ is an unscrupulous sort of knight . But never mind , his name , he is very beautiful .
Also taking up far too much room , I haveGeranium‘Rozanne ’ . Unlike many mass , I am generally not a outstanding fan of geraniums as I detect most of them a bit boney and unexciting . But nobody could accuse ‘ Rozanne ’ of not give a vast impact in the border . She is immense and after just one year she is elbowing out all the nearby plants . ‘ Rozanne ’ bring home the bacon the RHS plant of the centenary awarding at Chelsea in 2013 and with right reason . Her masses of large , cup- shaped blue flowers have white nub with regal veining . They are very classifiable . I like I had more room for her to lounge about .

I am crazy about eryngiums and in my opinionEryngium x zabelii‘Big Blue ’ is one of the best . The name read it all as it is tall and a marvelous recondite electric Amytal . I have it grow in my gravel garden where I have many rare and unusual plant but ‘ Big Amytal ’ is definitely the jazzy at the moment . It is wonderfully architectural with its spiney leafage and pretty ruff round each cluster of flowers . And it is not just the flowers which are blue ; the whole plant lights up the seam .
sage are increasingly popular for colour all summer long . Many of them are not brave but they are easy from clipping . But the ones that do come through the wintertime make much magnanimous , estimable plants . Salvia micropylla‘Wild Water Melon ’ survived in the crushed rock garden and I love it for its neon pinkish flowers which look in effect against the softer pink Rose ‘ James Galway ’ and a ego sown opium poppy .
Most of my lilies are look terrible as the lily beetle had a wonderful clock time whilst I was in France . normally , these small reddened beasts bed martagons so I was amazed and delighted thatLilium martagon‘Claude Shride ’ is comparatively unscathed . The foliage count nasty but the flowers are perfect . The lump I implant last year has increased and I think it looks lovely farm with fern in a suspicious quoin of the garden . I jazz browned blossom and this is a productive reddish brown with yellowed spots .

I have plenty of clematis as I am make use of all the fences and trellises to enjoy them . I screw viticellas as you’re able to chop them right back in saltation and off they go again . I have several very dark majestic clematis but I thinkClematis viticella‘Dark Eyes ’ is my ducky . It is very floriferous with dark velvety flowers with pretty dark stamens .
I called this post ‘ Notes from the Hammock ’ because when I started indite this morning it was a glorious day . But the weather gods must have been listening and chuckling to themselves . The cloud soon roll in and then the rain came . So no hammock today . But it is bet brighter now . So peradventure tomorrow .
