This may look like just another boring cherry-red maple , but it ’s not . Autumn Radiance ® colors up in fall about two weeks earlier than most other maples and really shine in the sunlight . Its strong , uniform limbs help oneself it ward off threat of breakage under heavy snowfall , which makes it ideal for the Northeast . The silvery gray bark is an tally bonus , while its broad oval canopy create a squeamish fly-by-night place to hide under in the heat of summer .
‘Powder Giant Blue’ woodland Iris(Iris cristata‘Powder Giant Blue’)

‘ Powder Giant Blue ’ woodland iris is a spread sweetheart , with large straplike blue - unripened leafage and dainty empurpled flush in midspring . My wife and I receive this plant as a gift many eld ago , and since then , I ’ve head for the hills it over with a lawn mower , sprayed it with Roundup , and even blank out to find it a new home when we moved ( I literally just throw it under our deck and hoped for the best ) ; despite all this , it ’s still prosper . The works has always pulled through wintertime well , surviving under heavy coke interlace with road salt .
Japanese tree lilac(Syringa reticulata)

For years , I have marveled at some Nipponese tree lilacs along the Connecticut shoring , which seem to thrive despite being subject to high winds , salt spraying , road salinity , heavy snow dozens , and kids hang monkeylike on their lower limb . This stand of trees never skips a pulse . Although Japanese tree diagram lilac has always been one of my best-loved plant , seeing how toughened it is has cement my love for it . With a fairly erect habit , this works would accommodate into almost any setting without taking up a large amount of infinite .

‘Unique’ panicle hydrangea(Hydrangea paniculata‘Unique’)

When a industrial plant thrives in Maine , you know that it ’s tough . While visiting that body politic years ago , I was surprised to divulge that the bloom of this shrub have a subtle aroma — the only fragrant hydrangea I know of . ‘ Unique ’ panicle hydrangea also has stout branches that help it persevere against strong wintertime steer and the heavy snow load . I wish to cut this plant back hard in late fall and then slim down out some branches in early natural spring to get the biggest and well bloom .
