The specific epithet " schumanniana " ( pronounced " shoo - mahn - ee - AH - atomic number 11 " ) honorsKarl Moritz Schumann(1851 - 1904 ) , a German plant scientist and the first chairwoman of the German Cactus Society .
This species is native toBrazil , southernParaguay , and northeasternArgentina . It grows in unfastened areas in deciduous wood on the steep sides of granite rock at elevation between 980 and 2,300 foot ( 300 and 700 m ) .
Parodia schumannianais acactuswith green , normally nongregarious stem with 21 to 48 straight , sharp , well - marked ribs lined with clusters of bristle - like spines . The stems are spherical at first , becoming columnar with age , and can grow up to 6 feet ( 1.8 m ) tall and 12 inches ( 30 cm ) in diameter . The spines are straightforward to slightly curved , initially golden scandalmongering to browned or red , and later grey-headed . Each areole bear 1 to 3 central and 4 to 7 radiate spine . The central spines ( sometimes lacking ) can grow up to 3 column inch ( 1.2 cm ) long , while the radial thorn can farm up to 2 inches ( 5 cm ) long .

The blossom are funnel - shaped , pale yellow to prosperous yellow , and look in summer . They can give up to 1.8 column inch ( 4.5 centimetre ) long and 2.6 inches ( 6.5 curium ) in diam . The fruits are globular to ovoid , dumbly covered with wool and bristles , and contain reddish - brown seeds . They can grow up to 0.6 inches ( 1.5 centimetre ) in diam .
