The native stove ofPachypodium succulentumis from Oudtshoorn and Karoo to Eastern Cape and Nothern Cape inSouth Africa . It occurs in arid places , unremarkably among rocks .
Pachypodium succulentumis a succulent shrub with a large tuberous stem comport several supple , reasonably turn branches with brownish spines , usually in propagate pairs , and fleshy , unripe to brownish leafage scattered along the branches and cluster towards the ends . It can grow up to 2 feet ( 60 centimetre ) tall . The genus Tuber can reach up to 6 inches ( 15 centimetre ) in diameter , with most of its volume lying below the ground level . The branches are erect , simple or sparingly bifurcate and can produce up to 2 feet ( 60 curium ) long and 0.5 inch ( 1.3 curium ) in diameter . As they mature , the untried branches are grey tomentellous , becoming glabrous with wrinkled brownish barque . The sidelong branches are usually very much shorter than the primal ones . The leaves are linear to linear - lanceolate and appraise up to 1.8 inch ( 4.5 cm ) prospicient and up to 0.3 ( 0.8 cm ) astray .
The inflorescence is a thyrse with 5 - merous prime on short pedicels , which stretch more or less when fruiting . The flowers are crimson or in dark glasses of pink , seldom white , and usually with a darker midstripe on the corolla lobe . They look in bounce and early summer .
