I had some technical publication with the blog , hence the belated post today … but better late than never , eh ?
The Good News
I ’ve finished my grafting video demonstration and will have it available soon . Though I ’m by no means an “ expert , ” this almost hr - long introduction will help you drop off your fear of graft and get going on your own property .
In the film I demonstrate three methods : the lash and tongue grafting , the side veneer bribery and the fissure graft . I also share some interesting cross - species grafts , seem at the reasons for grafting , show you my dewy-eyed grafting tools and a sight more . It was practiced fun and contain everything you need to get take off in graft .
The Bad News
One affair that ’s become quite unmistakable as we filmed was the pauperization for a better video camera . We ’re using a moderately simple Nikon L830 Coolpix that does good on landscape - style image and portrait shots but really fail on the autofocusing during close - ups … and I ’ve found no means to switch it to manual focus .
That think that though the camera can potentially do a nice job on close - up images ( as seen inmy Hipster Dave coffee video ) , it on a regular basis pass over in and out of blurriness as the auto - focus catch for whatever it “ sees . ”
This was maddening for filming airless - up grafting slam so the viewer can really state what ’s going on with my cuts . Some of the grafts I performed were film multiple times on multiple branches and we still could n’t get them to remain totally in focus . Rachel and I need to make this moving picture perfect ( or close ) but the camera wasted too much of our fourth dimension and we at last threw in the towel on getting it perfect . It ’s still got a lot of good information and value , but it ’s not as arrant as I had hop .

The Cure?
My grafting demonstration video is going to be offer as a download on a “ contribution ” basis , at least for this spring .
I ’ve been researching a new camera so we can significantly improve the YouTube channel and film more instructional horticulture films . I have a lot of plans for the time to come . I ’d also wish to do good closelipped - ups of insects , plant and fungi for the blog and we just do n’t have that potentiality justly now with our consumer - score photographic camera .
So with that in creative thinker , I ’ve decided to put all the money that this fussy project raises towards the purchase of a pro camera . I ’m judge we ’ll have to send away between $ 600 – $ 1200 for a solid HD DSLR that also does good still - shots . I ’m not the type to just ask for money ( I ’ve been told many time I should set up a “ donation ” tie on the site and just ca n’t bring myself to do that ) , so I ’m offering this fresh video instead . you could give $ 0.01 or $ 1,000,000 if you wish and get the photographic film , though if you give the latter I ’ll probably just hire Andi to pen this web log so I can corrupt a tropical island and endeavor to bring back the dinosaurs .

For now , though , I ’ve got ta get back to my editing .
