This last week when I was planting corn , pumpkins and pigeon pea in the nutrient forest , I was digging a pickle for a corn station and I hit a big rock . It was more than just a full-grown rock and roll , in fact – it was a bowlder ! After some digging and snoopiness and help from my Word , I cope to influence it out of the ground , leave a large hole behind .
Now the hollow was too big for a corn whiskey station , so I decided it was a full situation to plant a june plum tree that had been sitting in my greenhouse area for way too long .

AsJulia Morton writes :
“ The Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree is speedy - growing , attaining a tiptop of 60 ft ( 18 m ) in its homeland ; generally not more than 30 or 40 ft ( 9 - 12 m ) in other area . Upright and rather fixed and symmetrical , it is a stately ornamental with deciduous , good-looking , pinnate leaves , 8 to 24 in ( 20 - 60 curium ) in length , write of 9 to 25 glossy , elliptic or obovate - oblong leaflets 2 1/2 to 4 in ( 6.25 - 10 cm ) long , finely toothed toward the apex of the sun’s way . At the beginning of the ironic , coolheaded season , the leaf bend bright - yellow and fall , but the Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree with its nearly smooth , light gray - brown barque and refined , rounded branches is not unattractive during the few weeks that it stay naked . little , invisible , whitish flower are hold in large terminal panicles . They are assorted , male , distaff and arrant in each bunch . Long - stalked fruits dangle in Bunche of a dozen or more ; ellipse or somewhat irregular or knobbly , and 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 in ( 6.25 - 9 cm ) long , with thin but tough skin , often russetted . While still fleeceable and hard , the fruits fall to the ground , a few at a time , over a geological period of several workweek . As they mature , the hide and human body turn golden - yellow . While the yield is still firm , the flesh is crispy , juicy and subacid , and has a somewhat pineapple - comparable fragrance and sapidity . If allowed to dampen , the aroma and flavor become musky and the flesh difficult to slice because of conspicuous and tough fiber extending from the rough ridges of the 5 - celled , woody core containing 1 to 5 flat seeds . Some yield in the South Sea Islands librate over 1 lb ( 0.45 kg ) each . ”
It is a BIG tree and the juice is indeed delightful .

We ’ll see if I can keep it pruned and under controller . My neighbor has one that is a strong 50′ tall . Looking at this piddling stick of a tree now , that ’s heavy to imagine . I ’ll have to stay on top of it and see if I can keep it from wanting to go straight up like most of the june plum tree I ’ve seen . The persona I ’m using at the top of this spot is not from this tree , obviously , but it is a nice admonisher of what ’s coming in just a few short twelvemonth !
