Deer don’t stop this gardener
Today we ’re visiting with Judith .
After 25 days of living in my home in Pines Lake , a lake community in Wayne , New Jersey , my garden is still a work in advance with constant challenges .
I have a tiered property , and the upperwoodland areaarea was once fill with hemlocks(Tsugacanadensis , Zones 3–7 ) , but the woolly adelgid eliminate this area . I now have the area covered in moss with azaleas(Rhododendronhybrids , Zones 5–9 ) , mayapples(Podophyllumpeltatum , Zones 3–8 ) , andHosta .

Within the last few year , thedeerhave brought another challenge . Myhostasand other cervid delicacy in the front yard were being obliterate . Slowly I have transfer deer candy ( assorted smorgasbord of hosta ) to a fenced - in backyard and replaced them with hellebores(Helleborushybrids , Zones 4–9 ) , yucca(Yuccafilamentosa , Zones 4–10 ) , ‘ Everillo ’ sedge(Carexoshimensis‘Everillo ’ , zone 5–9),Coreopsis , and Chinese outskirt flowers(Loropetalumchinense , Zones 7–10 ) .
The hillside in my backyard was the idealistic property for a waterfall , which I added three years ago . I surrounded it with azaleas , Astilbe , Funka , ‘ Everillo ’ sedges , Heuchera , turtleheads(Cheloneobliqua , Zones 5–9),Hydrangea , and even jack - in - the - pulpits(Arisaematriphyllum).I tally lights in the waterfall for nighttime use .
Backyard shed area : genus Funka , Japanese painted fern(Athyriumniponicumvar.pictum , Zones 3–8 ) , gold debris plant ( Aucubajaponica , Zones 7–10 ) , Hakone grass(Hakonechloamacra , Zones 5–9 )

Hillside with Hakone grass , hostas , azaleas , and adry river bed
Mountain laurel(Kalmialatifolia , Zones 4–9 ) is make quick to bloom in myfront yard .
This hillside includesbirdhouses , azaleas , and Funka . I put in two railroad - railroad tie way of life to get to the woodland sphere .

This is the “ forest ” area , with genus Hosta , ferns , and arose bush . Moss has by nature covered , the surface area which I welcome .
Iremoved the grassfrom the face of the house and made a flagstone way of life . I put a turning point garden near the pack of cards with genus Heuchera , asedum , and annualbegonias . I had to impart the logic gate and fence because cervid would walk up the path and into my back garden !
Because of the cervid pressure , I interchange all my hostas with dissimilar varieties of hellebores(Helleborus viridis , Zones 4–8 ) in the front yard .

At this waterfall — which is line with sedge , azaleas , heucheras , hostas , and . Japanese iris(Iris ensata , zona 5–9)—I often see cardinal bathe in the good afternoon .
At night , the hillside in saltation and fall look magical , with blooming azaleas andCarexin springtime and bursts of color in crepuscule .
My front thou has a semi - round garden and featuresyuccas , ‘ Everillo ’ sedge , Hakone grass , columbine , Formosan outer boundary flowers , genus Allium , daffodils , andcoreopsis .

The backyard : when I bought my home the hillside was covered with anemic skunk and was unmanageable to mow . Azaleas anchorperson the hillside now .
