In a Vase on Monday. Sweet Peas.

Today I have been watering my tomatoes with comfrey and nettle tea . I don ’ t have a finicky recipe , I just put nettle and comfrey into a big barrel of water and go out it for about four weeks until it smells absolutely loathsome and then it is quick to use . It is a wonderful tonic but I could n’t get the smell out of my nozzle after doing it so what could be salutary than a vase of fresh pea plant ? commonly I am a stickler for using the right terminology when speak about plants but even I am not such a scholastic as to insist on squall these beautiesLathyrus odoratus . Of naturally they can be nothing else but sweet pea . These are doubly delicious because the seeds were a present from my lovely friendCathyat roll in the Garden who hosts this meme .

New sweet-flavored pea plant such as the Spencer hybrids seem to have big , ever more exquisite flower but at the expense of fragrance and scent is the whole point of a honeyed pea . And these beauties smell sublime . The varieties Cathy sent me are these lovely onetime - fashioned assortment . ‘ Lord Nelson ’ is navy blue , and he was born in the 1890 ’s . ‘ Solway Serenade ’ has bi - colour pink and red flowers . The most fragrant of all is ‘ Matucana ’ and it is also the old of all as it date from the seventeenth 100 . It is magenta and purple .

With the sweet peas I used some furry pink pasture , Pennisetum villosumand pink flowers ofDiascia personata .

In with the sweet peas seed there must have been some vetch seminal fluid , Vicia cracca . When they germinate I thought they must be some strange form of sweet peas and now they are flowering I think they look fairly growing up through the sweet pea so I have entrust them there . They are a perfect match for ‘ Lord Nelson . ’

To add even more intense fragrance I used some pink lavender .

I remember the coloring of the little pottery jug are a perfect friction match for the flowers .

The spiky prime on the left is Salvia greggii ‘ Icing Sugar ’ .

Thank youCathyfor such a endearing gift , I shall certainly develop these beautiful fragrant mixture again next year .

I ’m always startled when I see sweet-scented peas blooming in the summertime as they ’re winter / other give blooms here . I had a specially short showing with mine this twelvemonth but check yours I ’m committed to giving them an early commencement the next time around .

Your sweet pea plant are lovely in the vase , and the other plants are cracking companions . The vase is perfect , too . Comfrey and nettle Camellia sinensis ? Interesting ; I ’ll have to try out it !

Simply beautiful !
