I grew my first Citrullus vulgaris when I was six or seven years older . I was at our local farm store with my pappa , and I all of a sudden saw a wrack of ejaculate in a corner . A walk over and determine my mummy ’s favorite variety of watermelon seeds : Charleston Gray .

Of course , my dad being the best gardener in the country , he encouraged us to plant our own garden beds . As before long as we bring forth home I planted my new watermelon seeds and within the hebdomad they were sprouting all over my garden .

How to Grow Watermelons

Here ’s how I get them . All you have to do is go to a farm memory during the eye of February , and they should have Citrullus vulgaris seed in stock . Buy a few packages , take them home and plant them when most of the risk of hoarfrost is over , although do n’t plant them too late , or the pests will get them .

Make mounds about 6′ aside in all directions . Put in a handful of fertilizer , compost , or Steve ’s Mix when you make the pitcher’s mound . Then plant four germ in each heap .
