CultivationIt is impossible to extrapolate about the cultivation of gentians . Most require a well - debilitate , gritty soil containing leafmould or peat , but bothG. luteaandG. pneumonantheare bog garden plants . These two , together withG. asclepiadea , will produce in fond nicety . Others expect sunny positions and although they like plenteous moisture in summertime , they dislike winter sozzled , hence the need for practiced drainage . All should be set firmly .
