I have been making this spray for more than 20 years–I don’t remember where the idea came from–perhaps an old issue of Organic Gardening or Mother Earth News.

I have been making this spraying for more than 20 years – I do n’t think of where the idea do from – perhaps an honest-to-goodness effect ofOrganic GardeningorMother Earth News . I do know that the formula works . It is not an exact science ; practice a handful of dried cayenne peppers or other red-hot chiles and about a bulb of garlic to make the base dressed ore . Mix the dressed ore with water and spray it on plant with an infestation of aphids , mealy bug or white flies .
Every twelvemonth , I move all of my plants out of the greenhouse for the summertime . Before go them back into the greenhouse after spending the summer outdoors , I routinely spray them with this atomiser before bring them back inside ; it makes all of the critters take off and leave . My herbalist supporter Tina Wilcox adds 10 drop cinnamon , vetiver , or eucalyptus essential oil to this concentrate when she make it .
—

The formula is loose ; it make about 3 cup of concentrate .
Put the ail , chilli , and weewee into the liquidizer and intermix until the garlic and chiles are pureed . It will make a endearing orangish - pink concoction that is foamy . Let endure for at least 2 hour or overnight .
Once it settles it will separate and you will have a coral - colored liquid with deposit in the bottom . pelt the miscellanea through a strainer lined with okay cheesecloth , through a coffee filter , or even a jelly bag ; this takes a little while to strain . you could also utilise a wet paper towel , however this require even longer to strain . The musical theme is to get rid of all of the particles because they will stop up the valve of your sprayer .

Once agonistic , stream the concentrate into a jolt with a shaping lid ( not metal ) , add the soap , stir , and label . The concentrate is ready to employ , or it can be stored in a cool dark place for a few month to be used as needed .
Our atomizer bottles holds about a cubic decimetre ( or a dry quart ) , so we add about 2 tablespoons of the dressed ore to the bottle and satisfy it with water supply . We spray the plant late in the day , so that hot sun does n’t shine on them once they are spray , ensure you cover both position of the leave-taking . If the live sun glow on the just - sprayed leaves it can burn them . Also if you habituate too much concentrate it will also burn up the leaves . If you have a serious infestation , you will ask to go for the sprayer a few time , waiting a few days in between .
