I love to garden in flip-flops
If I could go through life without ever having to wear shoe or socks again , I ’d be the glad version of myself . Maybe it ’s because I uprise up in the ’ 80s and ran barefoot from May until September as a kid .
But I ’m in my mid-40s now , so my foot are n’t as vernal as they used to be . For twelvemonth , I ’ve gardened in flip - flops , which I truly believe is how Mother Nature intended . But 10 years ago , I develop plantar fasciitis while teach Zumba ® course , and since then , doing anything in my trustworthy flip - flops means I ’m gimp around for weeks afterward .
When my chiropractor told me that I postulate to stop wearing toss - flops straightaway to heal , I balked . But these are part of my horticulture uniform , I tell him . I might not even remember how to garden without wearing these toss - washout . He shrugged as if to say the pick was mine .

Fine . I researched and invested in some sturdy outdoor hiking sandals that supported my feet and did n’t resemble orthopedics . Would n’t you know , the plantar fasciitis was run low after some time and chiropractic treatments . Hurray !
On a beautiful spring day in mid - April , I move out of doors to review my backyard after a long wintertime . At first , I just meant to get the patio article of furniture out . But before I know it , I was leaving the ironware store with 15 pocketbook of mulch . The day was incredibly generative : I log double my common daily steps , clean out the shed , rotate and till the garden beds , cleaned up wet leaves , mulched the bloom beds and magnate - washed the furniture cushions . When my “ beast modality ” wore off , I realized I ’d done all that work in a couplet of ratty old flip - flops . Now I had a filthy tan line and super mad feet . Oopsie …
By that evening , I remembered precisely why I ca n’t garden in flip - flops any longer . I was abject . It took me the rest of the summertime and into the fall , bust my uncompromising shoes and socks conscientiously , to heal my fundament from the annoyance of just walk around .

I am embarrassed to admit how much I detest wearing shoes and windsock . It hurts my feelings . It makes me feel claustrophobic . But plantar fasciitis is no joke , and I am no spring chicken , so here I am , putting on my chiropractor - approve sandal every clip I go outside . Take aid of yourself out there , friends . We require to keep gardening for a long clip .
