Angelic flowers from a tropical shrub
Jennifer Hubbs , who gardens in southwesterly Florida , sent in these photos of a beauty flower in her garden ! It is a beautiful change for those of us who are in the centre of snow-covered winter mighty now .
I love to share my garden when there is such a beautiful specimen . check off out the bee enjoying the peak ! I ’m trust you relish the efflorescence too .
Angel ’s trumpets are flowering shrubs and small trees in the genusBrugmansiafamous for their huge , flaring , trumpet - shaped flush and plentiful aroma , especially in the evening . There are seven species in the genus , all native to tropical South America . This looks like it might be the speciesBrugmansia versicolor , though there are many hybrids between the species as well .

A close tone at the beautiful bloom , with a bee fall in for a closer look . In their aboriginal habitat , most brugmansia arepollinatedby moth , but distinctly this bee is unforced to give it a shot !
In climates where there is piddling freeze , brugmansias uprise to large shrubs cover with efflorescence . If you have stop dead temperatures , they will get immobilise back to the ground , but as far due north as Zone 7 , you canoverwintermany brugmansias successfully by covering them with a blockheaded layer of mulch in the fall .
productive flower bud promise more blossoms to come . Some varieties of genus Brugmansia flower more - or - less incessantly , while others tend to farm great deal of blooms in a big flush , then remain a bit before pose out another flush of flowers .

If you be somewhere too frigid for brugmansia to winter outside , they can be grow in gravid container and brought inside for the winter . A coolheaded billet , such as a basement or unheated garage , will keep them mostly dormant through the winter and quick to total back into growth and flower when you move them back outside in the saltation .
