This tough group of plants has a lot to offer
Surprise lily . Hurricane lilies . nude ladies . Spider lilies . Equinox flush . plant in the genusLycorissure have a LOT of unlike common figure ! These interesting and attention - grab names ( naked ladies ? ) make out from the plants ’ many unusual characteristic . Lycoris are blooming in my garden decent now , and I love them for send out off the horticulture year with a colorful bang . They are a big , divers grouping , but they all have something in vulgar : After sitting hidden underground as bulbs all summer , the flowers fritter away up in the fall ostensibly out of nowhere . The tenacious , strappy leave follow after the blooms either later in the gloaming or the next leaping . That singular ontogenesis habit mean they amalgamate well with other plants that are actively grow during the summer , and their unusual bloom meter puddle them the perfect counterpoison to a garden that feel tired and wear after a foresightful , hot summertime .
Lycoris radiata(Zones 6–10 ) has bright red , spidery flowers on the death of farseeing stems and is a classic heirloom plant in the South , where its extreme vigor and resistance to pests and disease think that old plantings persist for years , bringing beauty at the end of each summer .
Lycoris radiata pumila(Zones 5–10 ) is a slimly shorter and , in my experience , hardier version of the same works , grow for eld for me in Zone 5 in Michigan . For maximal winter hardiness , be sure to implant in the saltation or early summertime so the works can root in and get well launch before their first winter .

Lycoris shaanxiensis(Zones 7–10 ) has the same spidery flowers but in a soft yellow . Also , they bloom a fiddling earlier .
Lycoris longituba(Zones 5–8 ) can have white , pallid pink , or yellow-bellied bloom . It is one of the hardier mintage , suitable for frigid climate .
This form ofLycoris longitubahas a faint creamy - yellow color . Visible just behind it is the promising goldLycoris chinensis(Zones 5–8 ) .
