Cherry tomatoes have never been what I would consider an important part of my summertime garden . I ’ve grown one or two each year for snacking and salad , but they have n’t been useful for much else . My Grandaddy Joe always told me I was whacky for grow them . He could n’t suffer those thick skin lilliputian things . But , Black Cherry Tomatoes do n’t have those blockheaded cutis . Their rich gustatory sensation , thin skin , and versatility put them in a family all their own .

Last   summer I grow Black Cherry Tomatoes for the first time and I will never again design my summer garden without providing   a blank for them . By “ a space ” ,   I mean   a big place with the tallest and strong tomato cages I can receive . These plants are animal ! The yield might be small , but the plants are huge and vigorous vine . I establish 4 of them last twelvemonth and they all very cursorily outgrew the 5 foot tall tomato batting cage I had planned on containing them . They spilled over the top of the John Cage and tramp over the intact raised bed . By the end of the season , some of the plants   give well over 15 foot , even after being repeatedly prune back . These things are the kudzu of night shades . But , they are deserve of the space they take up because they are non - hold back producer of fantastically delectable tomato .

Like many other dark tomatoes , Black Cherries are odoriferous with a distinctive   ample flavor . These plants   pack all of the mightiness of a Cherokee Purple or Black Krim into flyspeck small bite sized jewels .   I used these beautiful little tomatoes infinite ways last summer because they never stopped bring on . When roasted , the rich flavor of   these little jewel is magnified . Salsa made with them has bass layers of flavor that smooth through the acid . mere angel hairsbreadth pasta with blistered Black Cherry Tomatoes is an ellegant and promiscuous summer meal . They were perfect cooked and sodding for snacking . We enjoyed them all Summer and well into the fall .

These three impression are a sampling of casual harvest from our garden last class . The first is from the earliest Summer picking and the last is from one of the latest gloaming harvest . The Black Cherry Tomatoes were one of the first crops to come in and one of the last crops to lounge into drop .

We tried to keep up with the production of our 4 Black Cherry Tomato plants , but   we could not eat them all tight enough , so I poke fun and froze the extras . I was worried that the skin would be ruffianly once they were thawed and put into a dish , but they are not even noticable at all .   Unlike most cherry tomatoes , these have thin and tender tegument . They have added refreshing summertime love apple flavor to soups , stews and pastas all wintertime long . We   have 1 quart sized bag left in the freezer and I   will be tossing it in an Angel Falls tomentum pasta saucer very soon . It has been so nice to have these trivial tone bombs in the freezer . They have assist   me to make it through one of the   hardest parts of wintertime , missing sweet summer tomato .
