It appears that Monsoon time of year has somehow made its way to our little farm and garden here in Ohio !
In the last two weeks , we have had rain fall totals at the farm of an column inch or more on 7 disjoined days – with two of those day filling the rain gauge to the 2″ level .
deluge at the farm like this have been all too common lately !

Downpours at the farm like this have been all too common lately!
And with rainfall in the prognosis for nearly every exclusive day this coming calendar week – there does n’t seem to be much of an end in sight !
Fortunately – even though the rest of the farm is imbue wet and litter with puddles – our raised course garden is growing strong and handling the excess water in stride – making all of this rainwater a bit more bearable .
Of the many advantage erect rows fetch to gardening ( simple mindedness , less weeds , less sustainment , etc . ) – I would have to say that the ability to handle too much or too little water is one of the most important .

This photo was shot about 15 minutes after the rain photo above – and as you can see, the garden is ready to go.

During periods of sullen rain – like we have had over the course of the last few calendar week – the raised rows allow excess water system to cast off and away from the works – keeping the soil around the plant moist , but not flooded .
In addition to keeping the plants from drown in too much urine – the raise words also allow us to cultivate in the garden at any point – and not have to wait days for the soil to dry out . This is a huge advantage that allows us to keep on a dim-witted sustentation agenda – something we would n’t be able to do in a more traditional flat - tilled garden .

While the garden was dry – the driveway showed the effects of the rain!
While the garden was juiceless – the drive show up the burden of the rainwater !
Yesterday was a majuscule instance of that – when proceedings after a quick 1/4″ downpour , we were both able-bodied to work the row without any problems at all – even though the rest of the farm was track in a small river from the pelting .
Not to be mislay in all of this is that raised wrangle work just as well in dry experimental condition too . Those same raise beds that shed off the excess pee during expectant rain work to conserve the moisture around plant and regulate soil temperature during periods of little or no rain .

We could use a little sun to turn these blooms into zucchini
We could use a little sun to turn over these blooms into zucchini
However , with all of that allege – and as happy as we are with our raised rowing – we really could use some sunlight here presently to get going turn those tomatoes red-faced – and dry the farm out !
