I was baby-sit at the dining elbow room table yesterday , browsing through my 2012 seed catalog . Exciting clobber ! There ’s so much I ’m looking forward to trying this year , I thought I might let you know about some of the seeds I ’ll be regulate and why I ’m choosing to give them a place in my garden .

It ’s tough to narrow the selections down , but my gardening budget is limited ( as is yours , I ’m guessing ) , so I ’m foreshorten myself off before I really want to . Plus , I have a large loge in the fridge downstairs filled to the brim with economise seeds from the preceding 5 or 6 yr .

Last year , I got saucy and write a list of all theseedsinside the box , put it in a Ziploc bag , and staple the grip to the top of the box . That made this year ’s germ ordering a portion easier ! Rather than sort through the box to find out what I already have , I just lease out the paper and put it on the dining way table with all of my catalogs . I hope perhaps you’re able to find a few gems for yourself on my list . Here goes .

Cavili summertime squashThis is a parthenocarpic squash racquets , meaning it does n’t needpollinationto set yield . I ’ll be able to grow it under float row cover all summer long to discourage the squash racquets bug and vine rock drill ! ! ! The fruit are creamy green and very smooth . Territorial claims it ’s very productive , too .

Apricot Twist sunflowerA sunflower with salmon pink - colored bloom ? Why would n’t I need to try it ? The petal look twisted and the industrial plant is multi - branching , name it hone forcut - flower bouquets .

From the Cook ’s Garden :

Kalibos cabbageI have always require to grow conic cabbage but tend to wish the red salmagundi more than the green . With Kalibos I ’ll have the best of both globe ! It ’s an heirloom variety from Eastern Europe , and though it is n’t as dark - redness as some other selections , it has a beautiful purple cast to the leaves .

pinkish Summercicle radishA daikon - character radish with a carrot form and gorgeous bright - pink tegument . They originate 5 inches recollective and are called “ crunchy and angelic . ”

Sugar Sprint snap peaSo excited to try this dwarf stringless scratch snap pea ! I ’ve always grown the 6 - foot - tall miscellany , but with Sugar Sprint , I wo n’t have to put the trellis up ! They reach only 2 feet magniloquent and are suppose to produce sooner than other sugar - snap miscellanea .

From Seeds of Change :

Purple Dove bush snap beanUnbelievable level , purple pods ! They bring forth in 50 - 55 twenty-four hours and look unbelievable . Although the industrial plant have a thin vining habit , they are still deal bush and do n’t need a fence ortrellis .

Mars celeriacI am so looking forward to growing this plant in my garden for the first clip . I have recently come to get it on the flavor of celery root and am trying my good to extend my growing season into the wintertime . Celeriac is one hard plant and this assortment is said to produce very heavy , rounded roots with grim green foliage . And , it stack away in the fridge for month .

Red Ruffled Pimento pepperI love pimento - type peppers , and this one is just beautiful . The skin is red with sinister shoulders , and it has recondite ribbing , add it an appearance of one of those mini pumpkin . It is said that the flavour is very sweet and the walls are slurred — two terrific pepper traits !

From High Mowing Organic Seeds :

Necoras intercrossed carrotI have been await for a winter - entrepot carrot variety and have n’t settled on the full one yet . mellow Mowing tell this one is top - pass . It ’s full - sized and keeps well both in the ground and in memory well into winter .

Shanghai pac choyCooking with pac choy will be new for me , but I have always wanted to spring up it . This variety has smaller head , only 5 to 6 inches tall , and can be harvested in the baby stage for cook whole . Havest occurs only 45 days after plant !

Indigo Rose tomatoOne look at these fruits , and you ’ll be corrupt a ejaculate packet , too ! They are sensational ! The skin is rosy reddened on the blossom ending and as black as black can be on top . The inside is deep cerise , and the yield are on the smallish side ( 2 to 3 ounces)—perfect for a salad .
